Hudson River Leukemia Cup Regatta 2011*

Six yacht clubs on the Hudson River, under the auspices of the Hudson River Yacht Racing Association (HRYRA), have joined together to support and race for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, a national organization dedicated to raising funds for cancer research. The Regatta will take place on Saturday, August 27th and more than 100 boats and their crews are expected. The clubs involved in the organization of this regatta include Chelsea Yacht Club (Chelsea, NY), Hudson Cove Yacht Club (Haverstraw, NY), Kingston Sailing Association (Kingston, NY), Nyack Boat Club (Nyack, NY), Minisceongo Yacht Club (Haverstraw, NY), and Shattemuc Yacht Club (Ossining, NY).

Due to high expected participation, the racing will take place at two venues: the Nyack Boat Club on the Tappan Zee for one-design racing in Ensigns, Thistles, Lightnings, Sonars, Colgates, 420s and Lasers; and at the Hudson Cove Yacht Club in Haverstraw Bay for larger cruising boats. After the races, there will be a grand party at Haverstraw Marina, at which racing and fund raising awards will be presented.

Leukemia Cup Regattas are a thrilling series of sailing events held across the country that combine the joy of boating with the important task of raising money to fight leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers. Each sailor in the Regatta series is eligible to win prizes, including the opportunity to sail in New York Harbor with Gary the weekend of October 14-16, 2011.

Dennis Chillemi, Executive Director of  LLS’s Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter says, “The Hudson River Leukemia Cup Regatta is a great way for boating enthusiasts in our area to do what they love, while also helping the nearly one million people suffering from blood cancers who need our help.
